A funny little poem about a cat

Hello. My name is Tom.
I’m an obsessive compulsive cat
With a three second memory.
I like to scratch and scratch and scratch…

Hello. My name is Tom.

London

Whilst you build your monuments to money
Sparkling and shining
We, the undersigned,
Walk in dirt filled underpasses
Away from your eyes
This London
So magnificent!
So supreme!
This land of culture and riches
Which grinds the bones of the poor
To build your monstrosities.
Behold!
The civilised capitol of the world!
Which looks with such distain
Upon the blot of life
North of the Watford Gap
Heathens, Picts and Celts
Stupid
To the glory that is London
We, the undersigned, do not agree.

Yours sincerely,

The Heathens, Picts and Celts.

Book review: The Light Bearer by Kolade Olanrewaju Freedom

The Light Bearer is a collection of moral and religious poetry designed to ‘kill the darkness present in the world.’ The poetry draws on a number of influences and cultural inspirations. For a western audience it offers a glimpse into the world of Nigerian born Freedom, and the socio-political dynamics of the wider world.
Notable excellent pieces are The unseen promise and A black jewel. Swept away by love describes an experience of love that all readers can resonate with, in Freedom’s own unique style. What does it take to buy peace paints a picture of our modern world, images that are all too familiar from the 10 o’clock news. It is an honest and raw portrait of the conflict and strife that Western readers are so far removed from. Freedom’s poetry is a call to all who are still willing to work for peace.
Readers of world poetry will enjoy this collection, and leave carrying Freedom’s message of peace with them.

That Lonely Path (an excerpt from The Light Bearer)

On a lonely path
None to walk path with
Path narrow and rough
Thorns on ground pierce feet
Cries as audible as a vuvuzela
But none would hear
No one on path
Everywhere as silent as a graveyard.

I tread on a lonely path
Could have digressed
But destiny keeps pushing me on
Path horrible and frightening
But courage within keeps kicking
I am no football to be played
But I roll along path
Defiling and defying the odds.

On that lonely path
Where Spectators mock as you tread
Where you are shrouded by doubts
But wouldn't succumb nor fidget.

Crown at end of path glittering
Desiring to be worn by the pathfinder
Walking on a lonely but new path
Better than treading on the used path
Where mediocrity and complacency reside.

On a lonely path
On a unique mission
On a neglected path
A golden throne awaits.

Us and Them

I have recently been influenced by a number of people I have met who work tirelessly, and without expectations of reward, for the cause of peace.

These people inspired me to write the following poem, and to try to articulate some of my feelings about the war zones across the globe, the ones we see every day in the news, and the ones the media conveniently forgets.

Isn’t it time we all started to campaign for peace, and an end to all the senseless violence and suffering throughout the world?

Us and Them

We see them on the news
The faces of the war dead
We pity them
And send money

We see them on the news
Faces of victims, the abused
We pity them
And send money

We see them on the news
Faces starved and burned and bruised
We pity them
And send money

We see them on the news
Faces of bombers, murderers, and youths
We hate them
And send rockets

When will we understand?
That what we all should be fighting for
Is peace.
